The Uganda Ladies National Golf Team is looking forward to an improved outing as the 16th edition of the All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) takes center stage at the Kigali Golf Resort and Villas course, Nov 1-4.
Uganda is represented at the championship by Uganda Ladies Open Champion Peace Kabasweka, Meron Kyomugisha, and Judith Komugisha with Wendy Angudeyo as the reserve player.
Eva Magala who doubles as the region’s AACT trustee, and was originally on the team but surrendered her position to Komugisha also travelled with the team alongside Coach Flavia Namakula and team manager Godlive Nayebare.
The Ugandan team will not be short of cheerleaders as the Uganda Ladies Golf Union president Doreen Mwesigye also led a team of other women golfers who will also compete in a supporters’ tournament, November 2-3.
They include Resty Nalutaaya, Eva Araduha, Edrae Kagombe and Jeniffer Opio.
Last year Irene Nakalembe’s Ugandan team that comprised of Kabasweka, Kyomugisha, Komugisha, and Martha Babirye finished sixth out of 20 countries in the event that was held at the Gymkhana Golf Club in Tanzania.
Uganda’s best outing has been a fourth-place finish out of 18 countries, in the event that was held at the Achimota Golf Club in Ghana in 2018.
South Africa has been the dominant force in the event having also won last year’s event with a total gross score of 444 strokes. Morocco came second with Tanzania (455), Kenya (458), and Zimbabwe (476) finishing third, fourth, and fifth respectively.
After the official flag-raising ceremony on Tuesday, the golfers get to action on Wednesday. Each country is represented by three golfers who will play a 54-hole competition with the best two scores counting for each team in every round.
