The expansion of the Uganda National Lacrosse League (UNLL) is set to not only grow the sport but also provide more competitive opportunities for both local and international players.

By broadening the league, more players, schools, and universities will have a platform to diversify and showcase their talent. Among the new teams confirmed for this season are Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Bombo Army High School, and St. Mary's High School Zirobwe, joining the existing five teams.

The league plays a crucial role in national team selection, ensuring players are consistently evaluated in a competitive environment rather than relying on one-time tryouts. The inclusion of schools and higher institutions of learning marks a significant step in developing grassroots talent and promoting the sport.

Uganda Lacrosse Association President Liberty Twesiime expressed confidence that the expanded league will provide players with ample playing time to stay fit and competitive.

“Running two concurrent leagues for both men and women is a positive step for the sport’s growth. It ensures players remain fit and ready for international duty at all times,” Twesiime stated.

The men’s division will feature Panthers Lacrosse Club, MUBS Lacrosse, Kobs Lacrosse Club, Warriors Lacrosse Club, Jinja Nile Zulus, Bombo Army School (TBA), St. Mary's Zirobwe, and Empower International School (TBA).

The women’s division will include MUBS Women Lacrosse Club, Maroons Lacrosse Club, Silverbacks Lacrosse Club, Nabisunsa Girls (TBA), Bombo Army (TBA), St. Mary's Zirobwe (TBA), and Empower International School (TBA).

Uganda’s lacrosse league is gradually gaining global recognition, attracting players from North America and East Africa, reflecting the sport’s rising prominence in the country. The participation of experienced players like Jack Sprinkle from the USA brings valuable mentorship to locally based players.

Sprinkle, who has extensive lacrosse experience, shared his enthusiasm for playing in the Ugandan league.

“Lacrosse is my biggest passion because I feel at home on the field,” he said.

In high school, Sprinkle played for Alexandria City High School, captaining the team in his senior year. He also played five years of college lacrosse for Delaware Valley University, where he served as captain in his final year and achieved over 100 points in 49 games.
