The Ugandan boys team improved by ten strokes in the second round, moving into a tie for third place with Morocco at the 2026 All Africa Junior Team Championship (AAJTC) at Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club in Nairobi on Wednesday.

Uganda posted a second-round score of 4-over 220, with Anthony Otukei (73), Peter Mayende (73), and Shaka Kariisa Ndyabahika (74) contributing. John Paul Rugumambaju recorded a non-scoring 79.

Morocco’s top three, Amine El Omari (71), Mohamed Baouhamou (72), and Alexandre El Khomri (76), finished one stroke better at 219. But both teams overtook Mauritius, which dropped from third to seventh after losing six strokes.

However, Morocco and Uganda remain 46 strokes behind leaders and record holders South Africa, who extended their lead with a second-round 201.

Andries van der Vyver and Cilliers Craig each shot 7-under 65, while Dewan De Bruin added a 71, increasing South Africa’s lead to 29 strokes over hosts Kenya.

Kenya remains in second place with 443 strokes after two rounds, seven ahead of Uganda and Morocco. Mwathi Gicheru (72), Junaid Manji (75), and Yuvraj Rajput (76) contributed to Kenya’s score, while Tsevi Soni’s 77 did not count.

Zimbabwe and Zambia improved their first round totals by 12 and 9 strokes, respectively. The Ugandan girls remained glued in sixth place after the second round, with only Keisha Kagoro improving, posting a 5-over 77. Rachael Natukunda scored 91, and Danelle Kawalya’s 92 was not counted.

South Africa’s girls’ team, represented by Phenyo Sebata, Lourenda Steyn, and Casey Twidale, continue to lead with a total of 280, 11 strokes ahead of Kenya at 291. Sebata and Steyn carded 69 and 71, respectively, positioning their team well for the final round of the 54-hole championship.

Each team’s best three and two scores per round count in the boys' and girls' divisions, respectively, and the lowest cumulative scores after three days will determine the winners.

The top teams in each gender will qualify to represent Africa at the Toyota Junior World Cup in Nagoya, Japan, in September.
