Uganda's junior Wushu Kung Fu team delivered an encouraging performance at the Africa Junior Wushu Kung Fu Championship, held in Egypt.

The two-athlete delegation displayed growing technical skill and discipline, underlining the country's steady progress in the sport at youth level.

The championship was part of a broader youth training program organized by the Africa Youth Training Camp in partnership with Olympic Solidarity, and ran from February 8 to 14. The initiative also served as a key build-up activity for the Youth Olympic Games scheduled for later this year in Dakar, Senegal.

Team coach Robert Kizito praised his athletes for their commitment and visible improvement during the camp and competition period. He noted that exposure to international standards has helped identify areas that need refinement, especially in upper-body techniques.

"During our stay in Egypt, we learned a lot and improved in areas where we were lacking," Kizito said. "We are now going to place more emphasis on upper-body exercises with the goal of perfecting them before the Youth Olympic Games qualifiers."

The president of the Uganda Wushu Kung Fu Association, Eddie Gombya, also welcomed the team's performance, describing it as a positive step for the future of the sport in the country. He revealed that the training program in Cairo was conducted at the request of the International Wushu Federation, which is keen on strengthening youth development across Africa.

"These athletes are still very young. If they are equipped with the right skills and exposed to high-level competition early enough, it simply means the future of Wushu in Uganda is bright," Gombya explained.

The Ugandan juniors now turn their focus to intensified training as they seek to secure qualification for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, where they hope to further raise the country's profile.
