Kampala is set to welcome nine nations for the Africa Zone V Women's Youth and Junior Handball Tournament from May 6-10 at Old Kampala Arena.
The competition serves as the qualification pathway for June's continental championships, with Uganda fielding both U17 and U30 squads hungry for redemption after travel disruptions hampered their 2023 campaign in Dar es Salaam.
The 30-player contingent, housed at Grand Global Hotel in Nakulabye, has undergone two weeks of intensive training at the competition venue.
Uganda Handball Federation President Sheila Angonzibwa Richardson confirmed the significance of hosting both the tournament and CAHB President Dr. Adolphe Aremou Mansourou - marking his first-ever visit to a Zone V women's youth event.
"Being selected as hosts demonstrates continental confidence in Ugandan handball," Angonzibwa stated. "Our athletes have prepared meticulously to capitalize on home advantage."
The tournament will feature regional rivals Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia, Tanzania and Burundi alongside the hosts, with winners progressing to June's Africa Handball Federation finals at a yet-to-be-confirmed location.
