Hosts Uganda continued to impress at the ongoing East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games, delivering another commanding all-round performance on a busy day of athletics and team sports at Namboole.
In the men’s 1500m, Julius Acon (No. 473) produced a powerful finish to claim gold in 5:23.5, narrowly edging Kenya’s Titus Lotee, who clocked 5:24.0.

Kenya’s John Kagucha completed the podium with a time of 5:54.08 in what proved to be a tightly contested race.
Uganda also shone in the women’s 1500m, where Christine Akello (No. 499) stormed to victory in 8:30.
She dominated the race from start to finish, followed by Kenya’s Hon. Phylis Barioo, while Uganda’s Hellen Auma and Gorreth Namugga secured third and fourth respectively, further underlining the hosts’ depth in middle-distance events.

Uganda’s strong form extended beyond the track. In netball, the home side overwhelmed Kenya with a commanding 72–12 win, comfortably advancing to face Burundi on Friday.
There was similar dominance in basketball, where Uganda cruised to a 40–20 victory over Kenya. Captain Suzan Amero led from the front with 16 points, supported by key contributions from Hon. Connie Galiwango (7) and Nakimuli Hellen (6), showcasing excellent teamwork and composure.

Overall, Uganda’s performances across multiple disciplines reflected confidence, discipline, and growing momentum, an encouraging sign as the hosts continue their quest for regional supremacy at the Games.
