The 16-member team led by coach Saka Bukenya consists of four female and 12 male cyclists.

Mahaba is optimistic about the team's readiness for the All-Africa Games in Ghana.

"We have athletes undergoing training in Rwanda, Russia, and South Africa. These riders are training with experienced peers, and I am confident that, with luck on our side, cycling is poised to secure its first medal at the Africa Games this year," said Mahaba.

While cyclists are actively training across various African countries, Mahaba urges the National Council of Sports (NCS) to allocate funds for preparations to enhance the team's training regimen.

"Athletes are already in training, and we are only waiting for preparation funds. I humbly request NCS to provide us with the necessary financial support to help our team train better for improved results," Mahaba stated.

Cycling is among the sports yet to secure a medal at the All-Africa Games, a challenge the team is determined to overcome this year.

In the last All-Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco in 2019, Uganda clinched ten medals, including two silver and eight bronze, across various sports such as athletics, boxing, chess, badminton, and weightlifting.

The 2024 All-Africa Games are scheduled to take place from March 08 to 23 in Accra, Ghana. Uganda is poised to participate in 11 sports disciplines during the event.
