Everyone needs a helping hand, and for the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA), the list of real partners is probably topped by Bankstown District Cricket Club.
Twenty years down the road, Bankstown is still donating consignments of vital cricket equipment to the UCA, still playing its part in the development of the sport.
It is an invaluable friendship whose legacy on Ugandan cricket may be hard to overstate, as UCA leaders acknowledged upon receiving the latest donation of equipment from the Australian-based club.
"This donation is a reminder of how far we have come and what strong, lasting partnerships can achieve," said UCA chairman Jackson Kavuma.
"The impact of this latest shipment will be felt, not just in the immediate season, but in shaping the game's future."
The consignment that arrived at Lugogo yesterday included a much-needed turf roller, wicket covers, t-shirts, balls, bats, pads, gloves, thigh guards, abdominal guards, helmets, and coaching literature.
"This equipment goes a long way in helping us to bridge the (equipment) gap, especially with schools," observed UCA secretary Denis Musali. "It is very expensive to buy a cricket bat, balls, or pads for the learners to learn the right cricket skills or train properly for competitions that are organised by Uganda cricket."
Musali added, "We will distribute it to the development partners that we have, the sports hubs in the six regions of Uganda cricket. but as well as the schools that participate in our competitions".
