Uganda’s national athletics team departed this morning for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, USA.

Uganda Athletics Federation president Dominic Otucet expressed confidence that the team will surpass its previous performance, having won five medals at the 2023 edition.

“Our focus is to win more medals, and I am confident they will do so because we have a strong team in both the men’s and women’s categories,” Otucet said.

The squad is spearheaded by two‑time defending champion Jacob Kiplimo, who will be aiming to make history by clinching a third consecutive world title. Kiplimo previously triumphed in Bathurst, Australia, and Belgrade, Serbia, in 2024.

The senior men’s team includes national cross‑country champion Dan Kibet, Dolphin Chelimo, Emmanuel Kibet, Deogracious Musobo, and Kenneth Kiprop. The senior women’s team features Sarah Chelangat, Rebecca Chelangat, Keren Chemusto, Martha Chemutai, Joy Cheptoyek, and Rispa Cherop.

In the junior men’s U20 category, Uganda will be represented by Solomon Andiema, Daniel Kiprotich, Abraham Cherotich, Dan Kipyekp, and Jeremiah Kweemoi.

The team will also field a mixed relay squad competing over 2km legs, comprising Silas Chemutai, Daniel Comboni, Brenda Chekwemoi, and Sylvia Chelangat.

In total, Uganda will be represented by a 26‑member squad, with hopes high that the team will deliver another memorable performance on the global stage.
