The fourth leg of the Uganda Aquatics League has seen the top five performers in various age categories selected to take part in the National Championships scheduled for July this year.
The selection took place at the climax of the 4th Swimming League Championship series, which Uganda Aquatics uses to assess the quality of swimmers in the country, as well as to select the best athletes for the National Championships and other international engagements. The event was held over two days at Kabojja International School over the weekend.
Mwase, a representative from Uganda Aquatics, expressed excitement about Ugandan swimmers getting the opportunity to compete in an Olympic-standard swimming pool, which has enabled them to post improved times compared to previous competitions.
"Many of the swimmers have posted better times than before in the different events, and the spacious lanes in the pool have contributed to this. The technical committee will now scrutinize those with improved times to qualify for the National Championships slated for July," Mwase noted.
The swimmers were ranked based on cumulative points collected from the four league outings conducted by Uganda Aquatics this year.
A total of 706 participants—332 females and 374 males from 24 clubs—took part in the event, which featured 5,270 entries across the Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16 age categories, as well as the 17-and-above category for both boys and girls.
Kristian Mugumya of Imara Aquatics (11–12 years) emerged as the overall top-ranked swimmer after the four league outings, collecting 349 individual points. He was followed by Jonathan Kaweesa of Torpedoes Swim Club (15–16 years) with 347 points, while Rahma Kalungi of Aquatic Academy ranked third after accumulating 337 points. Mushirah Nabatanzi of Aquatic Academy (11–12 years) finished fourth with 336 points, and Tyrah Muganzi of Gliders Swimming Club (13–14 years) ranked fifth with 329 points.
In the club rankings, Imara Aquatics emerged as the best performer in both the boys' and girls' categories, collecting 3,437.5 and 2,505.5 points, respectively. Gators Swim Club Kampala finished second in each category, with 3,146.5 points for the boys and 2,443.5 for the girls. Third place went to Dolphins Club in the boys' category with 3,116.5 points, while Altona took third in the girls' category with 2,352 points.
