“It was a tough one because I was playing against a teammate who I train with, and I lost the first set. She gave me a challenge because we have been playing together for a long time and so she knew where to place her shots,” Nakhumitsa who was playing in her second university sports outing, having made her debut while at Kisubi University said.

On her part, Wotanabeera had beaten Kampala International University’s Aminah Namaganda 3-1 before a similar win over Ndejje’s Peace Wetunga.

In the men’s singles, it was Kenyatta University’s Boniface Musyoki who prevailed over Ndejje University’s Benjamin Achuma with a 3-1 win in the final. Musokyi had seen off Kyambogo’s Samuel Mukwana 3-0, before eliminating MUBS’ Diof Miiro, 3-1. Mount Kenya’s Domani Kimani and MUBS’ Atwif Ssentamu fell in straight sets 3-0 each to Achuma before he also met his fate.

“It feels so nice to win and it shows my efforts are paying off and I thank God for enabling me to win,” Musokyi said.

“This was my first event to play at the East African level and I was determined to do better on my debut since my high school outing in Kitale where the base was built. Here I’m just reviewing what I learned and ensuring I do my best,” Musokyi stated.
