The boda boda industry plays a crucial role in Uganda's community development due to the essential services they provide.

Recognising this, TV West has formed a partnership with the industry in Mbarara City.

This partnership was celebrated with a football match between TV West employees and Boda Boda leaders, held on Wednesday at Global High School grounds in the heart of the city.

The match, watched by a large crowd, ended with the Boda Boda team defeating the TV West team 3-1. Ivan Rugangura, Yasin Kakembo, and Barugahare Toyota scored for the Boda Boda team, while Baker Waswa scored a consolation goal for TV West.

TV West manager Ronald Santana, who was the goalkeeper for the day, stated that the partnership aims to appreciate the boda boda industry for their services and for being loyal viewers of the Vision Group-owned station.

“TV West recognises the boda boda community as an integral part of city development, especially in Mbarara. This partnership is to thank them for their hard work, such as transporting children to schools and employees to their workplaces, and bridging the gap in city transport,” Santana said.

He added, “We want to let them know that we treasure their work and thank them for their continued support. They are a significant part of our audience, and this event is to interact and celebrate with them on Uganda's 62nd Independence Day.”

Mbarara City Woman MP Ritah Atukwase Bwahika, the chief guest, handed the trophy to the winning Boda Boda team. She praised the boda boda riders for their contributions to city development and encouraged them to maintain their health through regular exercise.

“I thank you, boda boda riders, for supporting development in our cities, especially Mbarara. I urge you to keep healthy by exercising regularly. Thank you, TV West, for this initiative and for mobilizing Ugandans for development and educational programs,” she said.

According to the arrangement, the TV West vs. Boda Boda football competition will be held annually during Uganda's Independence Day celebrations.
