The Teso community is filled with excitement following the endorsement of Amus College School and Bukedea Comprehensive School in Bukedea district as the hosts of the 2024 FEASSA Games.
The event, which is organised by the Federation of East Africa School Sports Association (FEASSA) is East Africa's biggest schools’ sports event which will run from August 16 to 24 in Bukedea.
Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association Bukedea district chairperson Abraham Maraka applauded the Federation of East Africa School Sports Association (FEASSA) for granting Amus College school and Bukedea comprehensive full rights to host the 10-day action-packed championship.
“It’s a privilege these competitions in the area because the business community will benefit,” Maraka said.

John Robert Osuu, Teso Zone Secondary Schools Sports Association is happy to see countries from East Africa coming together in the Teso sub-region for sports.
“We are thrilled to have the FEASSA Games coming to our zone. It’s a great opportunity for us to showcase our hospitality. The games will bring in visitors from different countries, and we are ready to welcome them and support the athletes.”
James Odeke, a shop owner at Bukedea town council is optimistic that with the big population of athletes, officials, and well-wishers coming to the district the rate of business will improve “The games are a big deal for us. They will boost our local economy as visitors will need food, accommodation, and other services. We are preparing special offers and looking forward to the business opportunities.”
“It’s exciting to know that we will be hosting students from other countries. It’s a chance for us to interact with them, learn from each other, and enjoy some great sports. I’m especially looking forward to the rugby matches,” said Jane Aguti, a student of Bukedea SS.
Charles Peter Opolot. a games teacher at Soroti SS said, “Hosting the FEASSA Games is a proud moment for us. It encourages our students to take sports seriously and shows them the importance of regional cooperation and competition. We are ready to give our best support to make these games successful.”

The endorsement of the two schools comes after the co-host schools met the minimum requirements needed to host the games which are due next month.
A delegation composed of officials from Uganda (hosts), Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Zanzibar spent two days in the region assessing the readiness of over 17 competition venues.
The FEASSA team led by General Secretary David Nguni expressed satisfaction on their second inspection of the hosting schools.
