Tashobya reappointed to chair streamlined NCS Board

KAMPALA - The state minister of sports Peter Ogwang has announced a new truncated National Council of Sports (NCS) board after the old term expired.

Ogwang in a press statement on February 14, 2024, Ambrose Tashobya was retained as chairman of the board which is guided by section 32(2) of the National Sports Act.

The old board had 11 members whose tenure ran for two years. The newly announced one comprises seven members with a term of four years.

The new board comprises Jacqueline Basemera, Cecilia Anyakoit, Evelyn Piloya, Zubair Galiwango, Stephen Kiprotich, and Moses Omara under the stewardship of Tashobya.
Six people were dropped from the old board and these are Susan Anek, George Galiwango, Derrick Namisi, Agatha Namirembe, Juliet Eyulu, and Andrew Otengo.

In the briefing, the minister instructed the board to start work immediately to oversee the operations of the 54 sports associations and federations in the country, until 2028.

Tashobya replaced Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) president Donald Rukare as board chair after the latter’s two-year term.
