Playing on a foreign course did not matter to Tanzanian lady golfer Iddy Madina playing on a foreign course as she went on to win the 2024 Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Ladies Open on Saturday at Kitante.

She carded a gross of 230 (78,76,76) after a three-day contest that attracted 24 gross lady players and several subsidiary entries of both men and seniors.

She beat Uganda’s Peace Kabasweka who finished at 235 (80,78,77) and Meron Kyomugusha who finished third with 237 (82,97,76) points.

“God has blessed me by winning the club open. I am still waiting for next week to compete in the Uganda Open which I have never won. Coming early was a strategy for adaptation and I am looking for positive results in Entebbe,” noted Madina from Gymkhana Golf Club in Arusha.

Madina, handicap 1.9 also won the Zambian Ladies Open in Lusaka this year and hopes to make a mark next weekend, especially with a boost from seven other Tanzanians destined for the tournament.

She earned a Uganda Airlines business ticket, dinner for two at Serena, and other goodies while Kabasweka also won a business class ticket.

Kabasweka said she is looking to defend the Uganda Open that role next week at Entebbe despite finishing second.

“The UGC event was tough on a windy. The greens were also hard but it was a learning experience. I am going for approach game training this week to defend the title,” noted Kabasweka, who also had the longest drive award.

Uganda Golf Union ladies captain, Doreen Mwesigye hailed the participants for the fourth edition of the ladies’ club tournaments.

“We have a circuit of 10 tournaments at different clubs and the overall winner will be crowned at the end of the year,” she noted.
