The Uganda Table Tennis Association president Robert Jaggwe has been elected vice-president for Africa in charge of the Eastern Africa Region.
Jaggwe was on Saturday elected as the continental vice-president during the virtual Africa Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) general assembly.
He will be in charge of 14 countries including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Djibouti, Seychelles, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Rwanda.
“I’m happy that I was entrusted by the entire continent in such a position and I will do whatever it takes to develop the sport in the region and Uganda in particular,” Jaggwe said.
“I know funding remains a big challenge, but this position allows me to lobby for more funding at the continental level and world level for development. The good thing is that we have some budget for this from ITTF,” he added.
He replaces Andrew Mudibo from Kenya who was elevated to be the ATTF Executive Board, ATTF BOD, and ITTF Board of Directors.
Also, another Ugandan Tom Kiggundu was re-elected as ATTF Board of Directors (BOD) and also on the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) board.
Jaggwe contended that at home, he has not performed to expectations due to several challenges, but working with Kiggundu will help the sport grow in Uganda and the region because the two are on good terms.
Uganda Table Tennis Federation was engulfed in leadership wrangles that retarded the sport for close to four years since 2014- 2019.
Thirty countries out of 54 in Africa attended the virtual meeting that was being moderated from Lausanne, Switzerland.
