Swimmers register personal bests as Silverfin Pentathlon ends

The pentathlon is a five-event race in which all participating swimmers compete in four strokes of equal distance and the 100-meter individual medley.

Swimmers registered several personal bests as the fifth edition of the Silverfin Pentathlon ended at the Kampala International School of Uganda swimming complex on Sunday.

 

 

The pentathlon is a five-event race in which all participating swimmers compete in four strokes of equal distance and the 100-meter individual medley. By the end of the two-day event, Sailfish Swim Club's Alma Kirabo had topped the 6-8 years girls' category with 38 points, ahead of Tumaini's Alma Kakaire and Swimming Angels' Raellah Akantorama, who finished with 34 and 23 points respectively. Jaguars' Harvey Ssengendo (39 points), Gliders' Raphael Wobugaba (28), and Altona's Aiden Corey (27) were the best boys under the same age category.

Ssengendo registered a personal best of 19.91 in the 25m backstroke, just like Aqua Akii's Kyle Asiimwe, who clocked 40.88 in the boys' 9-10 as he won his event ahead of Ozpreys' Geremiah Opolot (40.88) and Otters' Gideon Mwesigwa (42.52). Tumaini Aquatic Academy's Alma Kakaire also improved his 25m breaststroke time by 1.70 seconds, just like many other swimmers who also improved their times across the board.

 

 

In the 9-10 years category, Blue Whales Aquatic Venture's Adams Aya came out on top with 44 points, with Swimming Angels' Blessing Namugga and Otters' Gabrielle Amaya collecting 35 and 33 points respectively.

 

Aya in particular improved her 50m butterfly time by five seconds, winning in 34.02 seconds ahead of Amaya (36.94) and Gliders' Talitha Siima (37.85). Aya also won the 50m freestyle in a personal best of 31.72 ahead of Sonia Amaro (32.94) and Amaya Gabriella (33.09).

Namugga also bettered her 50m breaststroke time by 2.09 seconds as she won the event ahead of Otters' Gabriella Amaya and Gliders' Sonia Amaro, who clocked 43.60 and 44.62 respectively.

 

 

Aqua Akii's Tzion Tamale and Kyle Asiimwe, as well as Ozpreys Swim Club's Geremiah Opolot, were the best three boys with 41, 37 and 33 points respectively. Altona's Liora Kengonzi Lumu was the best among the 11–12-year-olds with 44 points, while Jaguars' Adrianna Nabaggala and Aqua Akii's Neema Nsereko amassed 42 and 31 points. Shane Mugenyi (Otters), Ashley Kimuli (Jaguars), and David Kayden Kamurasi excelled among the boys with 50, 37, and 31 points. Kengozi's personal best of 39.87 in the breaststroke was the fastest time ahead of Aqua Akii's Neema Nsereko's 40.40 and Jaguars' Adrianna Nabaggala's 41.34.

 

 

Mugenyi, on the other hand, clocked a personal best of 29.76 as he won the 50m fly, ahead of Kimuli (33.74) and Kamurasi (35.44), which were all personal bests. He also topped the 50m breaststroke in 35.32, ahead of Kamurasi's 42.78 and Aqua's Mohan Ssemaganda's time of 43.51 seconds, as well as the 50m freestyle in 28.65 ahead of Kimuli (31.53) and Kamurasi (31.73).

 

Jaguars produced another overall winner in Shivon Nagginda (44 points) in the 13-14 category, where Otters' Nisha Pearl Najjuma and Gliders' Francesca Nazziwa collected 40 and 36 points. The honours for the boys in this category went to Altona's Adam Katumba (42 points), Mako Sharks' Jayden Ntwali (40), and Elijah Mukisa (38). Aqua Akii's Angella Businge topped the 15-16 category, collecting 48 points, six more than Sharks' Keza Kalisa (42) and Swimming Angels' Laura Aziza Ayikoru (26). The Orcas club also produced the best in this category for boys—Elisha Karuhanga, who collected 48 points, with Sharks' Sheja Kabagema and Jaguars' Kyle Jjagwe managing 27 points.

 

Gliders' Hanisha Katana, Jaguars' Brandy Nakimbugwe, Imara Aquatics' Adira Hasashya, Baseline's Victor Kimuli Ogenrwot, and Jaguars' Ryan Asabo and Ryan Manisa were the best in the 17-and-over category.

 

In the 100m Individual Medley, Sailfish's Alma Kirabo (1:44.32) and Jaguars' Harvey Ssengendo (1:35.02) topped the 6-8 years category in both genders respectively. Adams Aya (1:22.20) and Kyle Asiimwe (1:25.82) topped the 9-10 category.

 

Adrianna Nabaggala (1:20.39) and Shane Mugenyi (1:13.31) were top in the 11-12 category. Shivon Nagginda (1:16.92) and Elijah Mukisa were the best in the 13-14 category, just like Angella Businge (1:22.83) and Elisha Karuhanga (1:08.97) in the 15-16 category.

 

The best over the distance in the 17-and-over category included Gliders' Hanisha Katana (1:23.31) and Baseline's Victor Kimuli Ogerwot (1:12.39), who finished ahead of Jaguars' Brandy Nakimbugwe (1:27.76) and Imara's Hasashya Adira (1:32.63) in the girls' category, and Jaguars' Ryan Asabo (1:14.84) and Ryan Manisa (1:14.89) in the boys' category.

 

"It was a high-performance, high-quality event showcasing top-tier swimmers aged 8-17. It was an amazing performance, and the children enjoyed the event," Silverfin Academy coach Benon Binta Wamala said.
