The Luwero District Schools Sports Association championships concluded in spectacular fashion at Katikamu Playground over the weekend, with Amazing Grace and Standard High Zzana emerging as the tournament's dominant forces.
Football Finals Deliver Drama
In a heart-stopping boys' final, Standard High Zzana (Luwero campus) claimed victory after edging Ndejje High 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time. Their goalkeeper’s heroic saves proved decisive in the shootout.
Amazing Grace
The girls' final saw Amazing Grace secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kayindu SS, while they also dominated the netball competition, topping the round-robin standings to complete a remarkable double.
Officials Hail Progress, Push for Greater Heights
Nicholas Mubiru, Chairperson of the Luwero DSSA, praised the teams' competitive spirit: "We’re building squads capable of challenging for national honors."
Else Namagembe, an association executive, highlighted the importance of spotlighting girls' sports: "Scheduling the girls' final before the boys' ensured they played in a packed, electric atmosphere—a crucial experience for their development."
Road to Nationals
The top eight schools—including Mulusa Academy Wobulenzi, Bugema, Shanam, Luwuube, Standard High Zzana Luwero, Bulemeezi SS Vumba, Ndejje SS, and Luwero SS—will advance to the Luweero regional tournament in Kiboga (April 15–18). The best performers there will earn the right to represent Luweero at the national championships.
The event showcased both the district’s burgeoning talent and its commitment to elevating school sports.
