Isa Bbale Sseremba has been confirmed as president of the Uganda Squash Rackets Association (USRA) following a smooth elective extraordinary assembly held over the weekend at Rock Classic Hotel in Tororo Municipality.

The extraordinary assembly was convened to fill the vacant positions of president, vice president, and other executive members.

Sseremba, who had been serving as acting president since December 2025 after the unexpected resignation of former president John Bosco Tamwesigire Ahimbisibwe, ran unopposed.

The elections were conducted in line with the association’s constitution and in collaboration with the National Council of Sports Act 2023.

A fully packed assembly of 250 delegates was graced by Milton Chebet, the assistant general secretary of the National Council of Sports, who called upon the new governing body to streamline the association's operations according to national procedures.

"The National Council of Sports loves the Uganda Squash Rackets Association. That is why I took the initiative to travel from Kampala to Tororo to witness the election of the top members who will run this noble sport up to 2028," Chebet said.

The delegates confirmed Edward Mubiru as vice president, Shifa Nantabi as general secretary, and Micheal Acon as treasurer.

Other executive members include Lynette Kabahenda, Aminah Nakawooya, Vincent Kibira, Bwanika Ismail, and Herbert Kafrika.

Speaking shortly after his confirmation, Sseremba expressed gratitude and optimism, noting that his task now is to ensure squash reaches the grassroots level.

"I want to thank you all for coming to attend this assembly today and for the trust you have given me to be your president for the next two years. It is my pleasure and appeal that we work as a team for this association. Working in isolation cannot help us anymore as we look to achieve the set target of spreading the sport upcountry," Sseremba said.

Sseremba's unopposed leadership comes at a time when the association is facing a continental body's accusations against the previous leadership of misappropriation of funds and manhandling Zimbabwean referee Nishyto Munyoro, who had demanded payment of his allowances during the championship.
