Soroti University sports tutor Bruno Oribi has announced that they are set to have the men’s team registered to play in the University Football League.
“I feel so happy and privileged to see that Soroti University is playing in the University Football League. This will help the players exhibit their talents and enhance their academics, as sports teach various interpersonal skills such as patience, communication, leadership, punctuality, accountability, teamwork, and trust,” said Oribi.
Oribi noted that playing in the Pepsi University League will give the players a chance to market the university, as it will gain exposure on many platforms like newspapers, radio stations, and televisions.
Soroti University Games and Sports Minister Baram Ainebyoona mentioned that as part of the preparatory measures for next year's league, the college is currently participating in the Deans Inter-University Cup, which began in September across all universities in the country.
“Soroti University has a good team for the competition. We will not only register to participate but will compete to win,” said Baram.
According to Baram, Soroti University, which hosted the recently concluded National Woodball Clubs Championship, won two medals in the competition.
Peninah Kabenge, the President of the Association of Uganda University Sports, recently attended the 5th AUUS Forum at Soroti University of Science and Technology. She encouraged all universities in Uganda to take part in sports.
“We will be happy to see Soroti University playing in the University League because it’s the only way to expose talents among learners. I urge all the fans across the region to welcome the league and watch the games,” she said.
Universities such as Nkumba, Busitema, IUIU, Makerere, Kumi, Victoria, Ndejje, UCU, Kabale, St. Lawrence, YMCA, Kampala University, Gulu, Bugema, KIU, Uganda Martyrs, Muni, IUEA, MUBS, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, and Muteesa 1 Royal University are currently participating in the Pepsi University Football League.
