Soroti University head coach Joseph Emitu has praised his players for their outstanding performance in the opening match of the Pepsi University Football League.
The Soroti-based institution, a newcomer to the highly competitive league, held Tororo University to a goalless draw at Busitema University’s main campus grounds on Saturday, October 4.
Although the match ended without goals, it was marked by high intensity, tactical discipline, and standout individual displays. Speaking after the game, Emitu expressed his satisfaction with the team’s spirited effort.
“I’m very happy with how our players performed. We didn’t win, but a draw is a good result, especially against a team with league experience. We played well and can now focus on beating our other opponents,” Emitu said.
Soroti University also demonstrated its strong commitment to sports by transporting fans from all five campuses in university buses. Their enthusiastic support filled the stadium with chants and energy, turning the opener into a memorable spectacle.
Looking ahead, university football coordinator Micheal Erebu expressed confidence in the team’s next fixture. “In our upcoming game against YMCA on the 24th at Soroti University grounds, we’ll do whatever it takes to secure three points at home,” Erebu stated.
Soroti University is placed in Group C alongside Nkumba University, Busitema University, YMCA University, ISBAT University, and Kyambogo University. The group is expected to be one of the most competitive in this year’s edition.
The 2025 Pepsi University Football League has seen a surge in participation, with 29 universities registered—up from 23 last year. Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Nkozi are the reigning champions.
