Wigan Athletic defender Toby Sibbick has joined the Uganda Cranes camp in Cairo, Egypt, as the team steps up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Sibbick, a Ugandan-UK-born player with experience in EFL League One, is expected to bolster Uganda’s defence for the crucial upcoming fixtures.
He will link up with a strong defensive unit featuring Bevis Mugabi, Timothy Awany, and Gavin Kizito as the Cranes aim to solidify their backline for the World Cup campaign.

The Cranes currently sit fifth in Group G with six points from four matches. They will take on Mozambique on March 20 in Cairo before facing Guinea on March 25 at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
Sibbick’s arrival provides a timely defensive boost as Uganda seeks to improve its position in the group.
In addition to Sibbick, forward Denis Omedi has also joined the squad.
Omedi, currently in fine form with Rwandan Premier League side APR, is expected to add attacking depth to Uganda’s lineup for the qualifiers.

Uganda is in a tightly contested Group G, level on six points with Botswana and Guinea. Group leaders Algeria, with nine points, remain within reach, but only the top team will secure a direct spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, Canada, and the USA.
