Margaret Baagala, a key player for the She Cranes, has officially joined KCCA Netball Club.
The reigning National Netball Super League champions have signed her on a three-year deal, signaling their intent to maintain their dominance in Ugandan netball.
At just 23 years old, Baagala joins from NIC Netball Club, the most successful club in the league's history. She is widely regarded as one of the most talented and intelligent centre-court players of her generation.
During her unveiling, Baagala outlined several main goals she hopes to achieve at KCCA. She is determined to win the league title in her debut season with the club, an achievement that has so far eluded her career.
She also wants to help transform KCCA into a lasting powerhouse. Despite winning the league recently, the club has only one title since its establishment in the 1970s. Baagala aims to build a culture of sustained excellence.
She has also set her sights on regional success and is committed to leading KCCA to their first East African Netball Championship title, a trophy the club has chased for over 40 years.
Additionally, she plans to revitalize KCCA's midcourt, which has lacked experience and authority in recent seasons. She wants to stabilize the unit and turn it into a breeding ground for future She Cranes players.
On a personal level, Baagala hopes to transition into professional netball internationally. She believes working with head coach Fred Mugerwa Tabale will improve her skills and increase her visibility to foreign scouts.
Baagala also brings a rare advantage to KCCA. She is an accomplished basketball player with the KCCA Leopards, giving her sharp spatial awareness, precision passing, and strong decision-making skills. She believes these attributes will boost KCCA's attacking play.
“I am deeply honoured to join this great institution,” Baagala said. “The objectives I have set are non-negotiable. KCCA must rise to prominence because I am driven by a relentless desire to align myself with excellence, not mediocrity.”
Her arrival comes at a time when KCCA is still waiting to receive the league trophy they won in December. Netball Uganda General Secretary Amina Mande explained that the federation has been rebranding its awards. “We have finalised the process,” Mande confirmed. “The trophies, medals and accolades will be presented to the respective teams in the coming week.”
