Uganda’s She Cranes are looking on the bright side as they prepare to face hosts Namibia in the Africa Netball Cup on Wednesday.
The team had a lot to unpack after allowing a seven-goal advantage to disappear in less than two minutes, ultimately losing the match 49-50. On Tuesday, they had a much-needed training session to iron out their weaknesses, and now they hope to put up a good performance.
“The camp is good, the girls are positive; we have put yesterday’s game aside. Those things happen in competition. There are positives and negatives, so we have been talking about the negatives and trying to fix everything so we are ready for tomorrow's game,” said coach Nelson Bogere.
The challenge against Namibia will be different from the one against Zimbabwe, who had few supporters. Against Namibia, the stadium will work against the She Cranes, but this is not unexpected.
“We know it is not going to be easy because we are playing the hosts, but we have fixed whatever needed fixing and we shall see what will come out,” Bogere explained.
The pressure is also on for Uganda, who are winless so far and need an opportunity to get something in the win column. Uganda has always played to a high standard in the Africa Cup, and this performance against Namibia has taken on new significance. It is a must-win for the team that went to the Southern African country with a desire to win the championship but may have to settle for a different target after stumbling in their first match.
