The second edition of the Private Schools League (PSL), featuring nearly 28 schools and 10,000 children from across Wakiso, Mukono, and Kampala, kicked off on Saturday with the hosts, Seeta Junior School, sharing the spoils with St. Catherine (1-1) in the under-10 category.

St. Catheline took an early lead when Joel Mutambaringo scored in the early minutes of the encounter before Reagan Wabolungu leveled the score for Seeta Junior from a free kick in the event organized by the Uganda Junior League (UJL).

This encounter mirrored their previous meeting on the same field last year, which ended 0-0 after both regular and extra time, ultimately decided by a penalty shootout where Philippe Mutyaba made two crucial saves, and Eliakim Mathieu Odongo, Michael Sempa, Christian N’sa, and Alexander Nsubuga all successfully converted their penalties.

In the U12 division, Seeta Junior defeated the City Kids Junior School 2-1, with Arnold Tushabe and Edwine Ibar’s strikes in the 13th and 17th minutes, after Victor Mutebi opened the scoring in the 7th minute.

Football scout Ronald Baazi picked this U-12 match as the day's highlight, commending the players' remarkable skills and expressing his intention to scout more talent at future PSL games.

The U10 category also featured an impressive performance from Palace Junior School, a predominantly girls' team, whose skillful play captivated spectators. Their goalkeeper, Hannah Wise, made over five saves against the boys' team from Mother Manjeri School.

Tournament organizers acknowledged coach Kommy Moses for his dedication to girls' sports, urging other schools to follow suit, and expressed aspirations to launch an all-girls league by year's end. The competition is set to continue on Saturday with the Western Region group-stage games, featuring defending champions The Stoneridge School against Twinbrook School. Among the other participating schools are St Francis School, St. Patrick's Primary, Gombe Junior, and Bright Horizon School.

The league has schools grouped into four regions: the Western Region having Gombe Junior School, Seeta Junior, Twinbrook, Gayaza, Bright Horizon, and Rapha School; the Eastern Region having Daffodils International School, St. Agnes Primary, Landmark School, Namirembe Parents, and St Francis; and the Southern and Northern Regions having another 12 very competitive schools, including Kampala Parents School, Greenhill Academy, Palace Junior, and St. Catherine, among others.
