Uganda lost to Zimbabwe 22-20 in the quarterfinals of the Rugby Africa Cup which took place at Namboole Stadium on Saturday.
To say the team was shell-shocked, would be an understatement as Zimbabwe got on the score sheet early in the match with a try.
Uganda was pegged back as Sables won the territorial battle. It was hard for the forwards and they too failed the midfield which left the Rugby Cranes trapped in their half.
Zimbabwe made sure to keep defending and called for countless scrums. They were able to score two more tries and converted a penalty which took their score to 22 points at halftime.
Uganda came out with a different attitude in the second half. They tried to pass the ball faster which forced them into era.
Uganda through Wokorach started the second half by converting a penalty through fullback Phillip Wokorach. Then Wokorach scored a try, which he also converted.
He scored a penalty to make the score 10-22. He then added another penalty.
He was on fire and there was no stopping him. He combined with little brother Thomas Gwokto for the latter's try before finishing the conversion.
It could have been better for Uganda but they can take the positive from this game and prepare a placement game to keep their World Cup dreams alive.
"Very good start for us in the first half we took our chance We took our points but I was very disappointed in the second half because we let Uganda back by giving away cheap penalties because of ill-discipline we let Uganda back into the game and they capitalized on it," said Zimbabwe Captain Hiltol Mudriki.
Ivan Magomu was proud of the men but disappointed in the result.
"We started a bit slow, went back into the dressing room and we decided to move the ball out wide and when we started to move the ball out wide we made it a game of two halves we were unlucky," said Magomu.
Uganda will now battle for positions when the championship continues on Wednesday.
Algeria defeated Court D'Ivoire in the third semi-final of the day and will face Kenya in the semi-final while Zimbabwe will take on Namibia.
