Uganda’s rower Kathleen Noble tested more action on Monday when she made 8:38.70 to finish second in the semi-final E/F 2 to qualify for the final of the repechage due on Friday.
She came second behind Algeria’s Nihed Benchadli, who she will battle again on Friday in the final among other racers to see where she will finish overall.
But her post-race revelation that she was going to retire after the Paris Olympics could shock many since she has currently been the face of the sport, propelling it to the highest level of competition, the Olympics, not once but twice.
“Friday is my last race and then I’m out. I want to move on to new challenges of life, I want to start a family, I want to focus on my career, and I want to pass on the baton to someone else, so I’m very happy to kind of wrap up this season and move on to something else,” Noble stated.
Commenting on her day’s performance, she said the target for the day was to ensure she kept among the top two places before she could gather all the energy for Friday’s final.
