Vipers coach Roberto Oliveira says he was impressed with the performance of his players in the CAF Champions League game against  Real De Bangui.

Oliveira said despite losing some of their key players in Cesar Manzoki, Halid Lwaliwa, and Bobosi Byaruhanga they have managed to prosper.

He was speaking after Vipers beat Central Africa Republic's Olympic Real De Bangui 1-0 at St Mary's stadium in Kitende on Saturday to qualify for the first round on a 4-0 aggregate.

"It's not easy building a new strong team after losing some of your key players. But my players have shown character and confidence to compete on the big stage. We just need to keep improving," Oliveira said.

The Venoms got the job done at home but in an unconvincing fashion leaving many wondering whether they will be able to cope against better opponents.

With just 20 minutes of play, forward Yunus Ssentamu who was returning from sickness ran past the two defenders to slot the ball past goalkeeper Christopher Bimako.

The Venoms should have won with a better goal margin if Ssentamu and Bright Anukani, among others had converted their chances.

Vipers picked up a win without head coach Roberto Oliveira and assistant Marcelo Cardoso who were not on the touchline as they await clearance from CAF.

Although Bangui were undone by first leg struggles they had some chances created including one that was denied by the post.

As they were trying to recollect themselves to at least pick up a consolation, their player Sidney Dambakizi was sent off for a reckless challenge on Vipers left back Issa Mubiru late in the game.

Their coach Jean Etienne Momokoamas who was not on the touchline revealed that his players did what they can but that the first leg defeat damaged them.
