With excitement building ahead of the 2026 Masaza Cup kickoff next week, Mawokota Ssaza has unveiled former Uganda Cranes defender Richard Malinga as head coach, marking his fifth spell in charge of the former champions.

The ceremony at Buwama's home ground drew club officials, local leaders, supporters, and technical staff, all hoping for a new successful chapter.

The 43-year-old CAF "C" licensed coach returns with renewed confidence, fresh from guiding Amus College School to their maiden USSSA National Boys' Football Championship title last month, further cementing his reputation as a promising tactician.

"This is a new era with fresh ideas, modern tactics, and a winning mentality. Forget about the past," Malinga said.

Mawokota have won the trophy three times (2005, 2007, 2013) but have struggled in recent years. Malinga previously led the team in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024, with his last stint ending prematurely due to poor results.

He will be supported by assistant coaches Richard Kasole, Hakim Ssenkumba, and Frank Tumusiime Zzaga. The interim Kabaka's Chief of Mawokota, Haji Hassan Kasujja Kaggwa, introduced the administrative structure: Ronald Kavuma as chairperson and John Bosco Lubyaayi as team manager. A provisional pool of over 30 players will be trimmed to the final squad.

Mawokota recently signaled intent with a 5–1 friendly win over Red Devils FC.
