Plenderleith tops Serena 63 Golf Series Championship

David Plenderleith has emerged as the overall winner of the inaugural edition of the Serena 63 Golf Series tournament whose competition started in February at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort.

After the last round played on Saturday, Plenderleith had accumulated 1299 points over 39 rounds to win a one-year individual golf membership subscription worth $2500 (sh9m) at the facility, and a Callaway golf bag.

His consistency also won him the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort Order of Merit with 194 points, 18 ahead of Jadu Patel (166 points) and Dr. Kato Ssebaale who finished with 162 points.

Lin Chen You who played as a guest and collected 1151 points over 46 rounds finished second overall and scooped the annual individual membership prize worth sh5.5m.

Duncan Kaggwa who amassed 1181 points over 39 rounds, Kartic Halai who managed 1176 over 44 rounds and Hisea Koshiba who carded 1176 points over 36 rounds; finished third, fourth and fifth, winning accommodation for two at the Zanzibar Serena Hotel with return flights, accommodation for two at Serena Beach Resort, Mombasa, and accommodation for two at the Dar-es-salam Serena Hotel with return flights.

Dr. Kato Ssebaale whose 40 rounds produced 1163 points, Jadu Patel who got 1153 from 32, John Byabagambi 1126 over 36, Chen Chen 1085 over 47, and Sahil Halai 1081 over 36 holes completed the top ten in the event that required players to play a minimum of 36 rounds between March 1 and December 3 to qualify for the main prizes.

The top five players will also be facilitated by the I&M bank to play in their I&M Invitational Golf tournament in Kenya, after the end of the biggest amateur event in the region.

In the subsidiary event played during the Grande Final, it was Owen, Moses Matsiko, Brian Cable, and Dickson Agaba who got to the podium having scored 41, 40, and 39 points respectively; with Ibrah Bagalana and Gilbert Cathal taking home the longest drive and the nearest to the pin prizes.

Earlier, Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Marketing and Corporate Banking at I&M Bank, highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it serves as a crucial connection point with the bank's valued customers.
