Pirates dig deep to edge Buffaloes as Impis go top

“We came expecting a hard game, and it lived up to its billing. We have seen so many things we have got to work on, but it's a learning curve all through to the end,” stated Pirates captain Isaac Massa.

The Stanbic Black Pirates continued their strong start to the Nile Special Rugby Premiership with a 23-17 victory over Toyota Buffaloes at Kyadondo Rugby Club on Saturday.

It was not an easy contest, as they had to dig deep to secure the points, but two wins from two matches place them in a strong early position.

“We came expecting a hard game, and it lived up to its billing. We have seen so many things we have got to work on, but it's a learning curve all through to the end,” stated Pirates captain Isaac Massa.

Although the Pirates started quickly in the first half, the Buffaloes responded strongly after the break but failed to capitalise on their late surge.

“The errors came in from the first half, and it started from how we were trying to defend, and of course, there are a lot of missed tackles. In the second half, when we talked to the boys about what was happening, they were really spot on,” Onen said.

In other matches, the Impis surged to the top of the Nile Special Premiership table following their unprecedented victory over Platinum Credit Heathens at the Graveyard.
