Entebbe Club’s Peace Hellen carded 37 Stableford points to win the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa’s (LVSGR) Women’s Day Golf Championships on Saturday.
Playing off handicap 24, she will consequently enjoy a weekend for two at the facility.
Hellen was two points better than Lugazi Hills Golf Club’s Julia Nampewo, who returned 35 points—an improvement from her previous rounds at the picturesque facility.
“I last played here in February after I won a weekend at Serena from a Katogo tournament in Entebbe. I had a good round despite suffering on some two holes, but at least I knew where I was going,” Nampewo said.
“The last time I played 89 and 86, so today’s score was a slight improvement. There is a lot of water on this course, but I was lucky I didn’t lose any balls because I tuned my mind to turn the water into green. But they have speedy greens compared to ours at Lugazi, so you have to spin the ball very well.
“I feel good to have won something on Women’s Day because I wasn’t expecting it. I just got the urge to come and play last evening because of the day, so I decided to come to the resort to enjoy the fresh air but ended up winning,” Nampewo, a third-year student of procurement and supplies at Kampala International University, stated.
Her second-place finish earned her a return to the course with three other players to enjoy another round at the facility.
Nancy Nsubuga (34 pts), Hisae Koshiba (31), and Ruth Akello (30) were the three other ladies who made a top-five finish and will enjoy Sunday brunch at the Lake Restaurant, a Spa Day, and a Maisha Day Pass at the LVSGR.
