Over 800 athletes set for 2026 USSSA Elite Games at Janan SS

With barely a week to the start of the 2026 USSSA Elite Games, scheduled for March 26 to April 1 at Janan Secondary School, organizers have expressed confidence in delivering a secure and successful championship.

Headteacher Joseph Mukwaga emphasized that security remains paramount for the four-day contest, which is expected to attract over 800 athletes competing across multiple sports disciplines.

“The safety of players is a key priority, and in conjunction with the Ministry of Health we have secured ambulances on standby,” Mukwaga told Vision Sport.

He added that Janan SS is privileged to host the Elite Secondary School Games, encouraging parents and schools with sports-loving students to attend, noting that the school has all the facilities required to stage the event.

Currently, Janan SS boasts two football grounds, two basketball courts, netball courts, and a swimming pool, all ready for use.

Team manager Ddamulira Akram highlighted the school’s experience, saying, “This is not our first time to host the games, and with the knowledge attained during previous editions we shall do it perfectly this time too.” He also urged visiting teams to uphold discipline both on and off the pitch to minimize hooliganism.

USSSA Chief Executive Officer Christopher Mugisha explained that the championship will feature the top eight schools per discipline from the 2025 National Championship. He praised Janan SS for its facilities, which include handball, netball, volleyball, and football pitches, ensuring a successful tournament. Mugisha further encouraged participating schools to present only bona fide students to maintain the integrity of the competition.

The 2026 Elite Games will showcase a wide range of sports, including football, volleyball, basketball (5×5 and 3×3), rugby 7s, and netball, promising an action-packed week of competition and school pride.
