Mukono District is stepping into the spotlight as preparations intensify for this year’s National Ball Games Championships, with nine venues cleared to host the multi-sport event.
The green light follows a comprehensive inspection carried out by district authorities alongside the Uganda Senior Secondary Schools’ Sports Association (USSSA), who assessed both competition facilities and accommodation ahead of the influx of participants.
Football, the centerpiece of the championships, will be played across multiple grounds in Mukono, while other sports such as rugby, hockey, and volleyball have been allocated specialized venues to ensure smooth competition.
Despite concerns, organizers remain confident that timelines will be met, with assurances that final works will be completed well before kickoff.
Scheduled for late April through early May, the championships mark Mukono’s return as a host of a major schools’ event for the first time in over two decades. Local organizers are promising not just competition, but a memorable experience for teams both on and off the field.
Meanwhile, authorities have raised concerns over some schools failing to participate despite national directives, with potential sanctions looming as officials push for full compliance.
