Over 500 athletes compete in fourth Engineers Run

More than 500 athletes gathered at the Kyambogo University Cricket Oval for the fourth edition of the annual Engineers Run, an event that also launched Uganda's World Engineering Day celebrations.

Organised by the Engineers Registration Board, this year's race recorded its highest female participation since its inception in 2023, signaling growing inclusivity within the profession.

Participants competed in 21km, 10km and 5km categories, drawing engineers, students and corporate teams from across the country. Held under the theme "Smart Engineering for Sustainable Development through Digitalization and Innovation," the run marked the beginning of a week-long program that will culminate in a national engineering conference at Hotel Africana on Wednesday.

On the course, Alfred Kamala of Team Nakasero secured his third consecutive 21km crown, underlining his dominance in the long-distance category.

Mugoda James from the Uganda Wildlife Authority triumphed in the 10km race, while Alungi Ismael of Running Company topped the 5km field. Kamala credited discipline and passion for his consistency, describing running as a vital part of his lifestyle.

The strong turnout of women stood out, with professionals such as Mazigo Gorret welcoming the growing visibility of female engineers in such platforms. State Minister for Works and Transport Musa Ecweru commended engineers for their central role in driving Uganda's development agenda, emphasizing that infrastructure and innovation remain pillars of government progress.

ERB Registrar Ronald Namugera hailed the edition as the largest yet, stressing that engineering remains critical to national transformation. He urged professionals to embrace digital solutions and innovation as key drivers toward sustainable development.
