The third edition of the Namulonge Ladies Golf Open will take center stage this weekend when over 100 players take to the Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club’s course in Namulonge to compete for honours in different categories.

First in the fray will be the elite amateur players (silver category), who will compete over 54 holes starting on May 23-24 alongside the bronze category, who will compete over 36 holes on Thursday and Friday and before the main event on Saturday.

Meron Kyomugisha and Peace Kabasweka, who won the first and second editions in 2022 and 2023, will be the front-runners in the main event, while the Namaras, Faith and Florence, are expected to lead the charge in the bronze category.

The event was launched at the Namulonge course on Tuesday, with the newly elected lady captain, Sheila Aine, calling upon all golfers to come and play their hearts out for the beautiful trophies and cash for the elite players.

“This is an opportunity for us to showcase our beautiful course and club, a chance for us to showcase and build women’s golf in Uganda, so we are excited and proud to be part of this,” Aine said.

Timothy Lwanga, the captain of the Namulonge Club, said the World Amateur Golf Ranking event will have the elite lady amateurs playing 36 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday on the course, which is in pristine condition.

Scott Ceasar Barole, the acting chairman, encouraged more people, especially the ladies and their employers, to come and watch, appreciate the game, and eventually decide to come and play the game.

Jackline Lydia from Ruby Hospital said they will be available for any health emergencies that could occur that day. They will also conduct health checks for high blood pressure and diabetes. Henry Ssebunya from MOMO promised discounted transactions at the club during the duration of the tournament, while Mellisa Kagoya from MUNIG Engineering said their association with the tournament is: “our way of celebrating excellence and community engagement.”

The event is sponsored by Equity Bank, MTN Momo, MUNIG Engineering Solutions Limited, Ruby Hospital, Pepsi, and the Uganda Ladies Golf Union.
