Three Ugandan drivers will take part in this year’s Safari Rally, scheduled for March 12–15 in Naivasha, Kenya.
Oscar Ntambi, Duncan Mubiru, and Timothy Gawaya will represent Uganda in an event that combines three competitions: the World Rally Championship (WRC), the Africa Rally Championship (ARC), and the Kenya National Rally Championship.
Ntambi, co-driven by Uthman Muhamad, and Duncan “Kikankane” Mubiru, co-driven by Joseph Kamya, will compete in the ARC category. Timothy Gawaya, navigated by Francis Wamala, will feature in the Kenya National Rally Championship. Among the trio, Mubiru and Kamya stand out as the most experienced Ugandan team.
Driving a Subaru Impreza GVB, Mubiru is targeting a podium finish to secure maximum points on the continental log.
Ntambi, backed by Kenya Commercial Bank and driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 10 (Evo X), is determined to challenge seasoned competitors such as Hamza Anwar, Yasin Nasser, Jasmeet Chana, Joseph Gachecheh, Karan Patel, Carl Tundo, and Samman Singh Vohra.
Another Ugandan, Ali Katumba, will also be part of the action as navigator for ARC defending champion Yasin Nasser, who is competing under the Tanzanian flag.
According to the entry list released by the organisers, this year’s Safari Rally has attracted a record 46 entries, up from 39 last year. The increase underscores the growing prestige of the event, which remains one of Africa’s most iconic motorsport competitions.
