Dr Joseph Oloro has been re-elected chairman of Mbarara Golf Club for a third consecutive term after running unopposed in the club’s elective assembly on Sunday.

Oloro, a medical doctor, will continue steering the club for another year, alongside his vice chairman, Dr Cleophas Karooma, and treasurer, Silvano Twinomujuni, both of whom were also retained unopposed. Francis Oriokot replaced Laura Atukunda as club secretary.

Other retained executive members include John Ssekyanzi as indoor games captain and Gabriel Woods as golf captain. Wander Areeba took over as bar member, Costance Katabazi replaced Immaculate Tumwine as lady member, while Godlive Nayebare joined as club legal adviser.

In his address, Oloro expressed gratitude for the continued trust placed in him and pledged to advance the club’s development.

“I thank you for keeping me at the helm of the club leadership. Together with my executive, we will continue working towards the growth of the club. The achievements over the past two years have been possible because of your support, and we ask for your continued cooperation,” he said.

He highlighted key accomplishments from the past year, including paving the club compound, re-establishing flags, registering trustees with the Ministry of Lands, redesigning the golf course, fencing the course and club garden, and introducing a cashless transaction system.

For 2025, Oloro outlined plans to complete the club garden, introduce a rainwater harvesting system to cut water costs, install solar power to reduce electricity expenses, repaint the clubhouse, establish a standard golf training range, acquire new machinery, construct a larger ladies’ washroom, and build a gated entrance with a paved parking area, subject to financial availability.

“There are many needs, but we will prioritise what is feasible while embracing unplanned but beneficial projects that arise for the club and the Mbarara city community,” Oloro said.

Mbarara Golf Club, one of Uganda’s oldest, was established in 1914 and currently has 277 members.
