Olila Women’s FC celebrated the Christmas festivities in style over the weekend, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga in the Finance Trust Women Super League.
In a home game and the last match of the first round played at Olila High School grounds in Soroti City, Dorcas Lwalisa netted Olila’s winning goal in the 89th minute.
Currently, Olila Women’s Club, which was promoted from the FUFA Women’s Elite League to the Finance Trust Women Super League, is in 10th position on the table with 8 points from 11 games.
“We have been evaluating the team’s performance in the Finance Trust Women Super League. After analyzing the first round, we have identified areas for improvement to enhance our overall performance in the second round,” said Ronnie Eletu, Olila WFC coach.
Eletu extended a heartfelt appeal to the club's fans, stating, “The supporters have always been enthusiastic about the team, and I am confident they will continue to demonstrate their unwavering support for the women.”
He added, “We are immensely grateful for the incredible support we have received from the Teso community. Your unwavering support has created an electrifying and inspiring atmosphere, and we eagerly anticipate experiencing the same level of enthusiasm in the upcoming match.”
The loss was disappointing for Uganda Martyrs' coach, Edward Ssozi Kasozi, as his side battles to move away from the relegation zone.
“So far, we are not doing well in the league, but we will implement what’s necessary to ensure the team remains in the Finance Trust Women’s League,” said Kasozi.
The defeat leaves Uganda Martyrs in 9th place with 10 points from 11 games played.
The second round will begin on February 1, 2025, and is expected to end on May 3, 2025.
