Olila won by 9 wickets
Olila Cricket Club clinched the Lyca Women’s T20 Cup in emphatic fashion, defeating Soroti Cricket Academy by nine wickets to end a three-season wait for the title.
Defending champions Soroti City faltered in their title defense, managing just 74 runs before being bowled out after electing to bat first. Olila’s disciplined bowling effort made the target chaseable, and their batters delivered with precision.
“We had a plan to bowl first if we won the toss,” said Olila captain Asumin Akurut. “Even though Soroti chose to bat, our goal was to restrict them to under 100 runs, and we achieved that.”
With only 74 runs to chase, Olila’s top order executed a calculated approach, anchored by a composed 32 off 31 balls from Esther Iloku, guiding them comfortably to victory.
“We wanted our opening batters to carry through to the sixth over to steady the chase,” Akurut added. “After three tough seasons, it feels amazing to finally lift the trophy. We stayed motivated, kept training hard, and it paid off.”
For Soroti City, it’s back to the drawing board after a disappointing final performance.
“It’s been a good run overall,” reflected Soroti captain Janet Mbabazi. “We faced challenges with player availability, but the academy ensured we had depth to stay competitive. We’ll regroup and come back stronger.”
