Charles Odere carded an overall 2-under 70nett to win the Entebbe Club social elite golfing group the Challengers’ first quarter outing competition at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa on Friday.
Playing off a handicap of 11, Odere notched one birdie on the par-5 hole 17 and nine pars to beat 50 golfers to the overall trophy in the one-day event that coincided with the ‘golden birthdays’ of two of their members, Marvin Kagoro and Richard Oloka.

After opening with three consecutive bogeys in the first three holes, Odere scored par on holes 4, 5 and 7 before four consecutive ones on 10, 11, 12, and 13 and before two others on 15 and 18, which ensured he finished three strokes ahead of Edgar Muzahura, who finished second with 73nett. Patrick Ndase beat Samson Agamire to third on countback after they each scored 76 ahead of Ivan Wesonga, who carded 77.

Henry Nsubuga (65nett) and Saleh Kalema (69) were the best guest golfers on the day the Challengers, famous for championing birding golfers, threw a spectacular birthday bash for two members celebrating their 50th birthdays.
After a spirited round at the Serena course, the birthday honorees, Kagoro and Oloka were whisked away to an all-white party at the Le Verde Gardens Kigo, where they celebrated with their guests. A fireworks display and musical performances from the likes of Vinca and Elijah Kitaka spiced up the night.

“This first-quarter tournament was largely successful because we wanted it to align with the celebrations of our members who were turning 50, and we normally celebrate them. Only four out of the 20 challengers missed the tournament because some were out of the country while the two were unwell. But we invited the other friends of the challengers who boosted the numbers,” Challenger’s captain Collin Nuwagira said
Entebbe Club spirited social groups Katogo, Kabalaza and the Challengers, have blossomed beyond the greens, championing social causes and supporting their own members, and this year they will be looking to lend a helping hand to another underprivileged person on top of supporting other golfing activities in the different golf clubs.

Entebbe Club bursts with energy during its golfing events, with the legendary ‘19th hole’ transforming into a lively hub of excitement whenever festivities are underway.
Fueled by a dynamic mix of young and middle-aged professionals who party into the early morning, their celebrations are unmatched and constantly evolving, driven by fresh ideas.
