Uganda Golf Club’s Nsubuga notched 11 birdies, 9 bogeys with the rest pars over the three rounds to continue with his fine form that has now seen him win three tournaments in two months.
Nsubuga is now torn between competing in the Kinyara Open in Masindi or the Tanzanian Open that are on this weekend.
Uganda golf champion Godfrey Nsubuga registered another milestone in Kenya when he topped the Kiambu Open on Sunday to strengthen his position in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Series.
This was after a triple sudden-death playoff with 25-year old Kenyan lady golfer Naomi Wafula, who also made history by winning the event at the expense of over 60 male players and the 32 that had made the cut in the annual championship in Kiambu County.
Nsubuga and Wafula had tied on two-under 214 after the 54 holes of competition that necessitated the four-hole double play-off. After tying in the opening round of the play off, Nsubuga was beaten on the decisive par-4 hole-18 which the Kenyan lady squared with Nsubuga registering a bogey.
Wafula walked away with the winners’ cash prize of sh2.3m with Nsubuga settling for sh1.4m but also with the bragging rights of having floored the Kenyan men that included ‘home boy’ and the leader of the KAGC series Michael Karanga, on his home turf.
Nsubuga who was coming off winning the Entebbe Open said he was happy that he had finally beaten Karanga who still leads the series by over 600 points.
“It was a tight competition, the course was fine and thank God it didn’t rain. It is very good because with this win my world ranking is lowered further,” Nsubuga said.

The Mehta Golf Club-bred Nsubuga is currently ranked third in the Kenya Amateur Stroke-Play Championships Order of Merit on 511 points behind leader Kiambu Golf Club’s Michael Karanga who leads with 1213 and second-placed Lejirma who is on 632 points. He is ranked 300th in the world.
His recent feat win follows a number of second-place finishes (5) in the Nyanza Open ‘Hippo Pot’ Golf Tournament in Kisumu, Windsor Classic in March, Transnzoia Championship in April, Goldfields Trophy Championship in Kakamega in June, and the Limuru Open in July.
He also finished third overall during the Kenya Amateur Stroke Play Championship played at Karen Golf Club in August, on top of two joint-fifth finishes in two other events.
Nsubuga is now torn between competing in the Kinyara Open in Masindi or the Tanzanian Open that are on this weekend.
