The National Insurance Corporation (NIC) netball team is preparing for a strong challenge in the upcoming 2025 Netball Super League season, determined to improve on their third-place finish from last year.
With the league set to begin in April, the club has made strategic signings to bolster both their attacking and defensive capabilities as they aim for the championship title.
In a significant squad overhaul, NIC has welcomed four new players to their ranks. The fresh talent includes Abuk Yum, a skilled shooter from Kampala University; Angel Akuwe, a rising star from St. Francis; Jessica Wanyenze Nakiwu; and Shatra Naluuta, a versatile wing attacker also from Kampala University. These additions are expected to provide the team with greater depth and address key weaknesses that hindered their performance last season.
Head coach Rashid Mubiru expressed optimism about his strengthened squad, stating, "Last season revealed some gaps in our team that needed addressing. With these strategic signings, we've built a more competitive squad, and I'm confident we'll see much better results this year." The coach emphasized that the new players bring not only skill but also fresh energy to the team's dynamics.
Team captain Racheal Nanyonga praised the club's management for their consistent support during the off-season. "Our administration has been instrumental in keeping the team active and in peak condition throughout the break," Nanyonga said. "Their commitment has maintained our fitness levels and kept our motivation high. Every player is fully prepared and eager to perform at their best this season."
NIC's 2023 campaign saw them finish behind powerhouses Prisons and KCCA, but the team believes their comprehensive preparations and roster improvements position them as serious title contenders this year. With intensified training sessions, strategic player acquisitions, and strong team morale, NIC is poised to mount a serious challenge for the 2025 Netball Super League championship.
As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on whether NIC's offseason moves can translate into on-court success and potentially dethrone the league's established favourites. The team's blend of experienced players and exciting new talent makes them one of the most intriguing prospects in what promises to be a highly competitive season.
