Netball league fixtures cancelled
Makindye Weyonje coach Jesse Asiimwe was left seething as the Uganda Netball Super League Division One weekend fixtures were cancelled with little notice.
“They sent us messages on Friday night claiming that KCCA, KBK, UCU and Posta hadn’t yet submitted their COVID-19 test results and they couldn’t allow them to play,” Asiimwe said.
He believes the teams should have received walkovers at the very least but they instead cancelled matches.
“This has disorganised us so much because we had wanted to first face the small teams before facing the giants like Prisons. This match was supposed to show us our weak sides so that we could face prisons while we were ready,” explained Asiimwe.
Games will now resume on June 12 after the Uganda Netball Federation elections. The above-mentioned teams haven’t played a single game since the season started earlier this month.
The clubs could have used a bit more notice on the new development which would have helped the situation.
“They communicated very late after we had finished our final last training on Friday evening,” NIC coach Vincent Kiwanuka said.
On Saturday the sport heads into the elections that will shape the direction of the game in the country.
