Ndejje University cemented its dominance in Bridge Sport by taking gold at the 20th edition of the AUUS National Games, held at the UCU campus in Mukono.
This win continued their strong record in a sport that made its second appearance at the games after being featured as an exhibition event in 2023.
Ndejje were inspired by their strong showing in the Bridge League, which ended a few weeks before the national games, with their players Andrew Ssebuufu, Joseph Genza, Alex Lubandi, Regan Mangwe, Vivian Nanyonga, and Ignatius Bainemugisha ensuring the victory.
Ndejje won the round-robin championship with 131.62 Victory Points (VPs), ahead of Makerere University and Victoria University, who finished second and third with 107.37 and 97.11 VPs, respectively.
Kyambogo (78.98 VPs), Islamic University in Uganda (67.54), Uganda Christian University (38.38), and Kampala International University (38.1) finished fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.
Silver medalists Makerere University fielded Asiimwe Kizza Muhimbise, Remmy Masereka Rujumba, Herman Akampa, Micheal Matovu, Derrick Ssekamatte, and Isaac Kusingurwa, while Victoria University, which fielded Simon Wanjusi, John Bosco Atugonza, Doreen Nyanjura, and Daniel Magezi, took the bronze.
Even without fielding teams in popular sports like basketball and football, Ndejje won its 7th consecutive title by strategically fielding sporting students in events where they have an edge. Ndejje edged hosts UCU to the overall trophy by one gold (10-9), despite UCU collecting more medals overall (18-16).
