KCCA have their work cut out for them after they failed to defeat KCB Nkumba in the first of a three-match women's semi-final series in the National Volleyball League.

The defending champions let themselves down and have to do better or risk ending their season in the semifinal.

“We have to hit reset and come back punching. The girls did exceptionally well in the first two sets. They stuck to the game plan and the execution was consistent but cracks started forming in the third set because of the errors that we failed to cut back on. We got Nkumba back in the game,” said KCCA coach Shilla Omuriwe.

It was tough for her side who raced to an early 2-0 lead but ended up collapsing and lost the last three sets which was beyond disappointing.

“We started receiving much better results from the setter and the outside hitters got their groove going by scoring in different ways. Our service became very stable as well. We have a lot of work to do at the net defense and positional discipline in court defence,” explained Tony Lakony.

It’s going to take a lot from the defending champions to stay in the competition but they will need to play the way they started the first set.

The problem is that Nkumba has a winning history so they will know what to do to secure victory.
