The national 4x400 mixed relay team will aim to secure qualification for the World Relays in Guangzhou, China, during the Second National Athletics Trials at Namboole Stadium this Saturday.

The team is led by two national 400-meter record holders—Aaron Andoli (men’s) and Shida Leni (women’s)—and includes Stella Wonruku and athletes’ representative Godfrey Chanwengo.

The quartet has been training intensively to maximize their chances of success in the coming weeks, and Namboole Stadium provides an ideal starting point.

“The First Trials concluded recently, and since it was our first time back at Namboole, I must admit the track was fast. Our preparations are entirely focused on qualifying for the World Relays, and I believe this team has what it takes to achieve that. Every member is a 400-meter specialist who has honed their craft. The Federation is also fully committed to ensuring we qualify, so if we don’t succeed at home, we’ll participate in additional races abroad,” said Chanwengo.

The World Athletics Relays program features five relay disciplines: men’s and women’s 4x100m, men’s and women’s 4x400m, and the mixed 4x400m. A total of 32 teams will compete in each discipline.

The top 16 teams in each event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will qualify for the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou. From there, the top 14 teams will automatically secure spots in the World Athletics Championships.

In addition to the relays, the Namboole trials will feature other disciplines, including the men’s 10,000m, men’s and women’s 400m, men’s 1500m, women’s javelin throw, men’s and women’s 100m, women’s 5000m, and the U-20 3000m, among others.
