Sadiq Nasiwu has been handed another four-year term as president of the Uganda Volleyball Federation following elections held at the Uganda Olympic Committee headquarters on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
Nasiwu, along with Treasurer Moses Opio and Athlete Representative Paul Oba, was elected unopposed.
Vice President Ahmed Kiggundu secured a second term after defeating challenger Allen Kagusuru by a margin of 53 to 15 votes.
In the race for General Secretary, former national team captain George Herbert Aporu emerged victorious, defeating four contenders to take charge of the volleyball secretariat. Aporu garnered 36 votes, ahead of Godfrey Binaisa with 15, Emmanuel Otim with 8, Proscovia Namuleme with 6, and Dennis Akram, who also received 6 votes.
Opio takes over the treasurer role from Joseph, while Aporu replaces outgoing secretary Godwin Ssenyondo, who chose not to seek re-election.
Following the elections, Nasiwu pledged to restructure the sport and prioritize regional development in line with the national Sports Act. “The new executive has come in with steam and energy. We are looking at implementing regional associations and empowering them to drive development at the grassroots,” he said.
He also emphasized the inclusion of the Athletics Commission at the executive level to ensure their concerns are addressed directly by the board. “We’ve brought the Athletics Commission into the executive to have their issues addressed at board level so that we can elevate the sport to another level,” Nasiwu added.
The newly elected officials will now begin appointing commissions and technical committees to support the executive in steering the sport over the next four years.
