Musonda still the man to beat as the Uganda Open rages on in Lugazi

Hot on his heels is Ugandan Joseph Cwinyaai who has kept within touch of the leader since the opening round of the 72-hole competition at the par-71 course built on hills.

Zambian Dominic Musonda showed the determination and zeal that could win him the Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open Amateurs Championship after he carried a two-stroke lead going into the last round of the event the Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club on Friday.

Hot on his heels is Ugandan Joseph Cwinyaai who has kept within touch of the leader since the opening round of the 72-hole competition at the par-71 course built on hills.

The third round was tougher for both the Zambian and the Ugandan, but the former still carded level-par 71 with the latter returning 72 in what is now a two-man contest.

The change in weather (rain) affected the players with the leader bogeying five holes as Cwinyaai faltered on four but the contest for the championship remains between the two.

Home boys Anthony Otukei and the defending champion Reagan Akena returned the best score of the round (68) each. Still, it is the former who surged into third position after he notched three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 16.  But he remains nine strokes away while Akena remains eighth.
