Uganda and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) are about to sign off on a five-year partnership. In reality, it is an arrangement from which Uganda stands to be the bigger beneficiaries, beginning with an eight-match tour to Mumbai.
“We extend our sincere appreciation for the leadership of ICC Chairman Jay Shah for facilitating this partnership with the Mumbai Cricket Association,” said Cricket Uganda chairman Jackson Kavuma in reacting to the tour.
“We also thank MCA president Ajinkya Naik for his exceptional support and hospitality, including covering the costs of the initial tour accommodation, match expenses and internal logistics, which has significantly reduced the financial burden on Cricket Uganda.”
The tour commences with a 50-over game on Monday against opponents yet to be decided, with Fred Achelam leading Uganda’s 16-man squad, which features debutants Fahad Mutagana and Enock Kasaija.
In all, Steve Tikolo’s side will play five 50-over games and three T20s, at the end of which assistant coach Jackson Ogwang believes the Cricket Cranes will be better prepared for upcoming competitions.
“It will help us prepare for the Challenge League in Tanzania,” said Ogwang. “We are going to play against good teams, and it is going to be a tough but good challenge”.
